Mr Peter Brownson was recently a member of a fourteen strong team from Spire Hospitals who took part in a cycle ride from Spire North Cheshire in Warrington to St George’s Park – The FA’s National Football Centre.
The ride in aid of two charities, Walking with the Wounded and Macmillan Nurses, took the team across areas of the Peak District and lasted approximately 8 and a half hours. Far from being a leisurely cycle on a Saturday afternoon the team undertook climbs of more than 5,700ft and burned 3,500 calories on their 81 mile journey.
Led by Rob Rogers, CEO of Spire Healthcare, the team enjoyed refreshments along the way at Spire Macclesfield and with the weather holding fine experienced some of the finest scenery on offer in this country.
With Spire Healthcare being the official provider of healthcare to St George’s Park the team were able to experience the fabulous sports rehabilitation facility the centre has to offer, with Mr Brownson taking particular advantage of a warm down sports massage post ride.
Mr Brownson explained,
“The opportunity to be involved in such a great cause was coupled with the team being fortunate enough to experience an exhilarating ride across some beautiful areas of the country.
As my heart rate peaked at 194 beats per minute climbing the infamous ‘Flash’ in the Peak District I am not sure ‘fortunate’ was a word immediately on my mind but as we arrived at St George’s Park and utilised their fantastic facilities the reality of our achievement came to the fore.”
